There are so many great links and resources out there... these are just a few of the ones that resonate/have helped me out that I want to lend my support to!
My doctors and my friends for the past 10 years. Incredible people who care deeply and truly "get" helping people heal. I can't recommend them highly enough!
The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding the cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and is at the forefront of research. Their mission is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.
Mike has Crohn's disease, and became an activist for the cause around 10 years ago. He has a powerful story and decided to use his notoriety as a voice for education about IBD. He also has a passion for Camp Oasis, and started a UFO tribute band called Flight to Mars which supports CCFA Camp Oasis for kids with IBD, as well as advocacy for patients with chronic illness. He wrote the song Inside Job about his battle with Crohn's: "Underneath this smile lies everything, All my hopes, anger, pride and shame, Make myself a pact, not to shut doors on the past, Just for today ... I am free, I will not lose my faith, It's an inside job today"...
I learned about Jennifer's story via Mike McCready- she was a lawyer with Crohn's and through their connection via CCFA, her organization was born. She worked tirelessly for patient's rights and did an incredible amount in her lifetime before she passed away in 2012 from complications due to Crohn's: http://articles.latimes.com/2012/oct/01/local/la-me-jennifer-jaff-20121001 http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/24/health/jennifer-jaff-legal-advocate-for-the-ill-dies-at-55.html Reading about her legacy makes me wish I had gone to law school after all...
Ben has Crohn's, and helps us laugh about it, not to mention being another huge advocate. Check him out via his posts on his site and here: Pain in the Butt
